Tara Conway-Shah of Roundwood Park School is this year’s winner of the Bill Hewetson Memorial Prize* and Rotary Young Citizen Award. The awards recognise a young person’s achievements in the spirit of the Rotary motto Service above Self.
Tara is pictured after receiving her awards, a token and certificate, from Rotary in Harpenden President Hugh Lawrence and Jane Franses, Bill Hewetson’s daughter. Also pictured is Bill’s granddaughter, Emma Hewetson.
At an awards dinner Tara was accompanied by her parents, Timothy Conway and Rupal Shah, and Fiona Bridgman, head of year 13, and Helena Budarkiewicz, head of chemistry, at Roundwood Park School.
Fiona described Tara’s extensive volunteering and mentoring, both inside and outside of school, which had earned her the two awards.
Tara thanked everyone for their support, especially from her parents and the school. She expertly answered questions from the floor, supplying further evidence of her worthiness to receive the awards.
*Bill Hewetson was a long-time member of the Harpenden Village Rotary Club, being actively involved in the area of Rotary and Harpenden Youth. Funded by his family and club members, this memorial prize is Rotary’s way of acknowledging his valued contribution.
