Debating Competition ‘so valuable’

St George’s School won both the intermediate and the senior cups in the Harpenden heat of the Rotary Youth Speaks: A Debate competition, held at Aldwickbury Golf Club before an audience of parents and teachers.

The intermediate team (11-13 years) debated the proposition that ‘Heathcare in the UK should be privatised.’ The seniors (14-17) had chosen to debate the equally delicate proposition that ‘Marijuana should be legalised in the UK.’

In the view of the independent judges, all teams, each comprising proposer, opposer and chair, had performed to a very high standard.

One teacher commented: ‘it was so valuable for the students and a lovely celebration of what young people can do.’

Both winning teams now compete in the district heat of this national Rotary competition.
