How the Big Give helped thousands in Malawi

Pump Aid, the charity dedicated to bringing the benefits of clean water to African countries, was one of the main beneficiaries of the funds raised by Rotary in Harpenden’s Classics on the Common show last July. It has now found a way to double the value of that donation.

We were asked to channel the donation through Big Give, a non-profit charitable website, that enables donors to find and support charity projects in their field of interest. Pump Aid registered ‘Safe water for life in rural Malawi’ as their campaign and, within days, the money we donated was matched by a donor.

The extra money helped Pump Aid to reach their target of £50,642 to pay for the recruiting and training of a further 10 pump mechanics who will maintain community water points, benefiting 75,000 vulnerable people as well as countless children currently prone to diarrhoea.
